1 Measuring the length of cells
What is the diameter of the low power field of view? the lines are millimeters (mm) ruler Diameter = 4 mm (4,000 um) What would the ruler look like when we switch to high power?

2 How can we figure out the diameter of the high power field of view?
or How can we figure out the diameter of the high power field of view?

3 How can we figure out the diameter of the high power field of view?
How much stronger is high power magnification than low power magnification? 10 x low power 40X high power 400X High power = 1/10th of low power diameter diameter

4 Low Power Diameter = 4 mm (4,000 um)
ruler High power = 1/10th of low power diameter diameter High power = 1/10th of 4,000um diameter High power = 400um

5 How can we figure out the diameter of the medium power field of view?
How much stronger is high power magnification than low power magnification? X 2.5 ?x Low power 40X Medium power 100X Medium power = ? of low power diameter diameter

6 Medium power = 1/2.5 of 4,000um diameter

7 Low Power High Power 40 X X

8 Low Power Medium Power 40 X 100 X
How would you move the slide to get specimen A to the middle of the field of view? Specimen A Low Power Medium Power 40 X X

9 Medium Power High Power
100 X X

13 parfocal A parfocal lens is a lens that stays in focus when magnification is changed. There is inevitably some amount of focus error, but small enough to be considered insignificant. pertaining to different eyepieces (of telescopes or microscopes) that all focus their images in the same plane, so that they can be interchanged without readjusting the instrument.

14 Resolution – the ability of a microscope to show two points that are close together as separate images
