The Clean Air Act was drafted and signed into law in 1963.
CAA is the first federal legislation about controlling air pollution.

Developed regulations to limit both stationary and mobile sources.
Placed National Ambient Air Quality Standards. [NAAQS]
Specified standards for controlling hazardous air pollutants. [NESHAP]

1990 Amendment
Largely increased the authority and responsibility of the federal government.
New regulations for controlling acid depositions.
Regulations for the issuing stationary operating permits.
Addressed issues about ozone layer depletion.
