2 Workshop A Personal Tutoring and Pastoral Support (Dr Jenny Child and Dr Theresa Compton)
Differences between medics separating pastoral from academic roles; others seeing in a different way Jenny shared tool which was developed with students – for wider dissemination ‘Personal tutoring/ pastoral support UTOPIA’ – embed the active part of the Personal Tutor role within curriculum. Build resilient workforce for long-term future. Make practice an active component. Create honesty in the role – what it is to be a personal tutor and tutee; what each invests in the partnership Link slide

3 Workshop B Fitness to Practise (Prof Hisham Khalil and Dr Liz Hellier)
A lot of shared areas – FTP policy and process; reasons why students would have issues raised about FTP (attendance, signing forms/ claims); issues relating to health are quite rare. Scenario activities – very similar approaches in the two Faculties. Similarities in decisions about actions to take. Link slide

4 Workshop C Supporting Students with Special Needs (Dr Richard Johnston and Kerry Pace)
Terms – special needs/ disability – were these getting difficult to use? Reasonable adjustments or right of access? Broad idea of what student will need to do once qualified – recognising that students cannot touch on all areas; maybe accept that some disabilities may still be manageable in future employment? Tools of assessment – do we sometimes try to assess factors which weren’t the initial intended purpose (eg: speed of doing things). Health can have big impact on students with disability. Deal with the health issue rather than the disability – student is likely to have developed coping strategies. Link slide

5 Workshop D Schwartz Center Rounds (Dr Daranee Boon and Glenda Cooper)
What they are – safe space to talk about emotional impacts of work Explain what they are and discuss how it is OK to talk about emotions How do we get the information out to relevant groups so that it is an accepted norm to talk about emotions as well as availability of Rounds? Challenges in being able to attend Rounds Explanation about contract with Point of Care Foundation Cultural education that the purpose of Schwartz is to discuss the emotions, not to identify right and wrong/ problem-solve Shared evaluations from Rounds to date and discussed ideas about where to go from here.
