8 The importance of reading
The new GCSEs require students to read and respond to more challenging texts in their examinations. We must prepare children to access these texts. So… D.E.A.R. time. Accelerated Reader programme for Year 7-9. Intervention Reading groups.

9 The importance of reading
WHAT CAN YOU DO? Please discuss the books your child is reading. Ask them about their test scores and what their reading age is. Check they have a book in their bag!

10 Literacy Student are required to write more in their examinations than ever before. There are 7 hours of examinations in English. 96 marks are based entirely on literacy. There are also marks for literacy in other subjects’ examinations. Dictionary and Thesaurus Handwriting pens Read their homework Literacy tutoring: we offer 1:1 literacy tutoring for selected Year 7/8 students

18 Targets, Assessment, QPG and reporting

19 How do we set targets? Targets are based on KS2 scores, or CATS if no KS2 data Students are put into sets based on targets At this stage, students are given a year 11 target and are banded into Band QPG colour KS2 score yr 11 target High Platinum Upper Middle - Gold Lower Middle - Silver Lower Bronze <94 3+

20 What is a QPG? A subject specific Success Table
Shows what a student should be able to do to be working on target and what they need to do to work above target. Can be used by students to self-assess their work Can be used by teachers to mark and set targets for improvement Should be stuck in every student book Examples on the school website for parent to see.

T+ Student’s current standard of work, if built upon, is likely to lead to them exceeding their target T Student’s current standard of work, if built upon, is likely to lead to them meeting their target T- Student’s current standard of work, needs development if they are to meet their target grade but is NOT a concern at this stage. C Student’s current standard of work is a cause for concern and, if sustained, is very likely to lead to them failing to meet their target grade. The reason for the concern will appear on the report .
