Warmup: Which quadrant is indicated by “20° clockwise”?  Which is indicated by “200° counterclockwise”?  How can you describe the position “20° clockwise” in terms of a counterclockwise rotation?

9-3 Trig functions of General Angles
Find values of trig functions for general angles. Find values by using reference angles.

Notice what that means for the unit circle angles where the radius is “1”.

Pull out your unit circles: A.S.T.C - all students take calculus.

16. (4, -2)

The reference angle is formed at the origin when you draw a line to the CLOSEST x-axis from the terminal side.

Hint: Whenever they talk about “exact value” you know you are looking at a point on a circle or an angle you can see on the unit circle from special right triangles!

Suppose  is an angle in standard position whose terminal side is in the given quadrant. For the function, find the exact values of the remaining five trigonometric functions of . 39. cos 𝜃= −8 17 , 𝑄𝑢𝑎𝑑𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝐼𝐼𝐼
