1 Using Photoshop for IED
Making Your Coversheet

2 Save and image from the Internet
Make a folder in classes- label it Portfolio Coversheet Search for an image that exemplifies and interesting aspect of technology on the internet. Save the image in your Classes folder. Note the image must be saved as a .jpeg or .jpg

3 Open Photoshop On your computer open Photoshop
Click the Microsoft Icon Find Adobe Mastersuite Choose Photoshop CS5

4 Using Photoshop We will work on an 8.5” x 11” Canvas
Set the dpi at 180 Keep RGB and 8 bit In the upper left corner click File Then new and a menu comes up Fill in the menu as you see on the next slide Then click ok

6 Become Familiar with the Screen
Note that your tools are along the top tabs or icons are on the left side Work space is the canvas in the center of the screen. Along the right you will see the layers menu. Photoshop is an interesting tool that allows you to layer your elements.

7 Adding an image In the top left corner, click File and then open
Find your saved image Click on it and then open You will now see your image on the screen Your canvas is still there Note you now have windows open

8 Selecting the image The easiest way to select the entire image is the pict the Select tab and then choose ALL Then Pick the Edit tab and choose copy Then you need to pick the first canvas that we made And once you do that choose edit- PASTE It will now be on you initial canvas and you will need to size it By choosing Edit – TRANSFORM – SCALE Make it the size you want and then position it on the page by compressing the left side of the mouse and moving the image (Panning)

9 Add Background Color Note that in your Layers menu to the right; you now have 2 layers -one of the background, one of the image Click on the Background Layer-right click and duplicate the layer. This copies the layer. On the very bottom layer to the left click on the eyeball, this turns the visibility of that layer off. Click on the other background layer with the eye active. Now it is the active layer and we can change the color Note the tool icon menu on the left side Find 2 squares toward the bottom. Click on the top square and choose your color for the background. Think blending, matching, contrast, etc. Make it look visually appealing.

10 Your layer menu should look like this!

11 Color and Paint Bucket Once you have chosen your color – click ok
Find the Paint Bucket took on the Icon menu You may have the gradient active so you will need to choose the Paint can unless of course you would prefer to use the gradient tool Note* If you use the gradient you must put another color in the second color square. And then pull a line on which way the gradient will flow on your background canvas Paint Bucket Pulling the line Gradient Tool

12 Adding Text T Click on the Text Tool- it looks like a big T
Add the words IED Portfolio Add you name (first and last) and block number. Positioning is critical here and your size and color choice.

13 Making Changes Any changes that are made at this point, you need to be certain that you are on the layer that you would like to make the change. Find that layer, click on it to activate it and then make the change. If you would like to alter your image, under the Filter tab, go to artistic, there are a lot of filters that do some interesting artistic changes to an image. I chose poster edges and clicked ok. Once completed please save 2 times- once as a photoshop file with the extension .psd Once as an image with the extension .JPEG

14 Finished Cover Sheet To Print you will need to minimize Photoshop and open the .jpeg file and hit print.
