2 Sub-Theme of the Project Theme at IIT Madras: Dynamic Energy Management System for Grid Interactive Microgrid with Hybrid Energy Storage. US-INDIA COLLABORATIVE FOR SMART DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM WITH STORAGE Evolving future energy distribution grids Visit: Project Plan Modeling, Control and integration of various renewable sources along with battery- supercapacitor storage system to meet efficient and reliable operations of loads. Energy management schemes to have required power flow among the microgrid, load and the utility grid. Addressing power quality problem to prevent ac grid from supplying harmonics, unbalance components of load powers with microgrid connected system. To verify the proposed concepts, design and development of an experimental test bed system of an integrated microgrid system consisting of PV, wind, hybrid energy storage systems, local ac and dc loads connected to the utility grid, will be carried out. This work is supported by the Indo-US Science and Technology Foundation in partnership with Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, under grant no. IUSSTF/JCERDC-Smart Grids and Energy Storage/2017.

3 Sub-Theme of the Project Theme at IIT Madras: Dynamic Energy Management System for Grid Interactive Microgrid with Hybrid Energy Storage. US-INDIA COLLABORATIVE FOR SMART DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM WITH STORAGE Evolving future energy distribution grids Visit: Status of Project Research work is going on control aspects of various DC to DC, AC to DC and DC to AC converters for integrated microgrid system. The power control schemes are also explored for efficient energy management between the renewable sources such as PV, storage system consisting of battery and supercapacitors, local load and ac grid system [1-4]. Power quality issues are considered while microgrid system is interacting with load and distribution utility grid. Research Publications [1] M. Pradhan and Mahesh K. 4 Sub-Theme of the Project Theme at IIT Madras: Dynamic Energy Management System for Grid Interactive Microgrid with Hybrid Energy Storage. US-INDIA COLLABORATIVE FOR SMART DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM WITH STORAGE Evolving future energy distribution grids Visit: Microgrid Test Bed System At IIT Madras, a microgrid test bed system with 3.3 kW solar, 1 kW wind turbine emulator is developed, which consists of the following sub-systems. A PV system (3.3 kW) and a wind turbine energy emulator (1 kW) A hybrid energy storage system (HESS) consisting of battery units (4.36 kWHr) and supercapacitor units (22.6 WHr). Various DC to DC converters to integrate PV, battery and supercapacitor units to the DC bus of the microgrid system and AC to DC converter to interface the wind energy system to the DC bus Voltage source converter to integrate the DC bus of the microgrid to the main distribution grid and a digital platform to implement the control schemes for above- mentioned converters to achieve appropriate power flow and maintain power quality requirements while supplying the load reliably. This work is supported by the Indo-US Science and Technology Foundation in partnership with Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, under grant no. IUSSTF/JCERDC-Smart Grids and Energy Storage/2017.
