Let’s review… Which of the following statements describes how tissues, organs, and organ systems are related? Organs form tissues, which form organ systems. Organ systems form organs, which form tissues. Tissues form organs, which form organ systems. None of the above

Nervous, Muscular, Skeletal, Digestive, Cardiovascular
Let’s review… Sally uses five organ systems to eat and digest a hamburger. Identify the systems. Nervous, Muscular, Skeletal, Digestive, Cardiovascular Describe how the five body systems mentioned above interact to complete digestion. Nervous system sends messages to Sally’s muscular system to bite into the hamburger. Sally’s jaws (skeletal) help grind up the food. The food moves into the stomach (digestive). The digestive system breaks down the food, and the cardiovascular system picks up nutrients from the digestive system to take throughout the body.

16
Body System Goals: I can describe the relationship between cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems. I can identify the major organs of different body systems. I can describe the functions of different organ systems. I can explain the importance of maintaining homeostasis.
17
Today’s Goals: I can identify the major structures that make up the skeletal system. I can describe the function of the skeletal system

The Skeletal System (pg. 41)
Skeletal System—provides support and protection , allows the body to move, stores minerals, and produces blood cells
19
Joints in the Body Joints—a place where two or more bones meet 4 Types of Joints: Gliding—hand, skull Hinge—knee, elbow Ball-and-Socket—shoulder, hip Pivot—neck
20
Flexion—bending a joint or limb Extension—straightening a limb
Type of Movement: Flexion—bending a joint or limb Extension—straightening a limb Rotation—a joint pivots
