Gel electrophoresis (1.2% agarose) of the products obtained by a duplex PCR assay to detect mef (A) and erm(B). The amplicons erm and mef are, respectively, 640 and 350 bp. M, molecular mass marker. Lane 1: PCR product obtained using a mixture of the chromosomal DNAs of an erm-containing strain and a mef-containing strain. Lane 2: strain positive for mef Lanes 3–5: strains positive for erm.
