3. What is PBIS? WE CALL IT SOAR!
PBIS is:
- a positive behavior management process to create safer and more effective schools
- a system of clear schoolwide expectations with consequences and incentives
- intervention when you need help
- recognition and celebration for your successes

4. What does PBIS do for you?
Students are recognized and acknowledged for positive behaviors:
Outside lunch, free seating in cafeteria, dress down, snacks at lunch, homework pass and more!
Students receive interventions to help them refocus their unsuccessful behaviors.
teacher-student conference, parent contact, reflections, learning lunches, parent conference, administrative referral.

5. How Does PBIS Work?
All students follow the same set of rules and expectations throughout all areas in the building.
These rules and expectations are displayed as a matrix, which is posted in every area of the school.
When students follow the rules and expectations, they are acknowledged.
When students do not follow the rules, there are planned guidelines to help them get back on track.

7. What is a “seahawk shell”?
A shell is an acknowledgement from someone that you are doing what is expected or that you have gone beyond expectations.
They will be calculated in the PBIS app. Teachers, parents and students can access their shell “bank”
You may also collect them in your agenda from substitutes, bus drivers and visitors. You will need to turn your agenda in to your HR teacher to be entered in the system within 3 days of receiving the shells.

8. How can you earn seashells?
When consistent, students will be recognized for appropriate behaviors that represent the examples on our matrix.

9. Who awards students with shells?
All staff including:
teachers
substitute teachers
counselors
coaches
main office/media center staff
bus drivers
cafeteria staff
custodians

10. When and where will students redeem their shells?
* Students will redeem shells with their homeroom teacher on designated dates; once per 9 weeks * The activity or privilege redeemed will occur on that day only * Using PBIS Rewards, teachers and students will know how many shells they have before and after each redemption day; shells can only be used ONCE * A list of activities and privileges, along with their shell value, has been created and will be posted and available for students * Students may redeem for more then one activity/privilege * Shells do not expire; all students will participate in Redeem Days- this cannot be taken * Redeem Days for School Year are: Oct. 6th; Dec. 1st, March 23rd, May 16th

12. Group acknowledgements available:
Homerooms may work together as a team and collectively use their shells for group redemption once per 9 weeks: Go to the YMCA for 2 hours: 250 shells Class party planned by students: 200 shells Extra 15 minutes at break: 150 shells Free seating in all classes (1 day): 150 shells ** Teacher approves day and time for activities **

13. Reward days: * Reward days will occur once per 9 weeks
* Students earn the privilege to participate by meeting outlined criteria; shells are not a part of reward day
* Criteria are:
No ISS or OSS
No minor incident reports
No bus suspensions
(since last rewards day)
* Reward time will happen during Connections time and supervised by Connections Team
* Reward Days for School Year are: Sept. 8th, Nov. 10th, Feb. 9th, Apr 13th
