3 Research Report Writing Research
Summary with specific details Explanation of a situation, event, book, etc. Research Analyze a perspective or argue a point present your own thinking (thesis) backed by others' ideas, research, and findings

4 So… …if writing about the Vietnam War, you’d read newspaper articles and books and interview veterans to develop and/or confirm a viewpoint and support it with evidence

5 In research, citing sources is a must:
MLA Formatting and Style

6 Definitions Citation: make reference to and give credit to a source for use of facts and ideas

7 Definitions… In-Text Citation: the brief note so the reader:
1) knows the fact/idea came from another source 2) can look at your Works Cited page and find the exact location of the idea/fact looks like…

8 Definitions Works Cited: the last page of a research paper, includes full citation information for all sources cited in your paper and no other sources looks like…

9 How to Cite Suggestions:
Books and subscription databases are the most reliable and the easiest to cite. Other online sources can be as reliable, but more work is needed to validate the source’s authority & use online citation makers, just be sure to double-check Purdue University – OWL site

10 The Assignment Go to the Skyline Library website via the Skyline webpage. And click on Library Catalog. Find a book that has to do with something you will study this year: write down the title and call number of the book. Go to the “Databases & eBooks” tab on the library page and choose one labeled KCLS. Logon and search the database; write down the name of the database.

11 4) Bring completed assignment to the library tomorrow

REGISTER for an account; be sure to fill in the “Easy Login Retrieval” section (subscription isn’t associated with an so there is no I-forgot- password link, etc. Write down your Personal ID. 4) Bring completed assignment to the library tomorrow
