2 Figure 1 Direct signal transduction of light information to gene expression in plants. Plants are able to sense and respond to a wide range of light wavelengths. In many cases, photoreceptors perceive light signals and are recruited to the promoters of target genes through interactions with cognate transcription factors. At gene promoters, these signalling complexes can then directly control the expression of genes influencing growth and development.
