1 CellMap Erik Curre Taj Isono

2 Operational Concepts Mapping tool that allows the user to type in an address and map it. Zoom in/out of map & View areas to North, South, East, and West Obtain real-time traffic data Does NOT give driving directions

3 Features Address Book Map Display Real-time Traffic Data
categories: business, personal, entertainment, gas stations, parks, etc. Map Display target appears as a dot on a graphical map Real-time Traffic Data preset list of locations text result: “heavy”, “light”, “accident”, etc.

4 System Architecture Map Renderer Geocoder Traffic Server Map Database
Sensors Map Servlet CellMap Client

5 CellMap Client Program
The midlet that runs on the cell phone Sends user queries to servlet and displays the information that is received from the map renderer and traffic server

6 Map Servlet Communication gateway between the client-side CellMap program and the three server-side programs Reformat queries from CellMap and send them to the appropriate server program Monitor server program output and return Succeed or Fail to CellMap

7 Map Renderer Uses a complete King County database
C++ program that generates map graphics Uses a complete King County database Outputs a map as a .PNG file Stores output file on a web server, making it accessible to CellMap (property of Point B Telematics)

8 Geocoder C++ program that converts an address to latitude and longitude coordinates that can be used by the Map Renderer Request sent, result received by the servlet. (property of Point B Telematics)

9 Traffic Server C++ program that polls real-time traffic data from King County sources and sends it back to the servlet Traffic data obtained from polling sensors located along major roads and highways, updated every 30 seconds

10 Intended Audience College Students Businessmen Tourists Drivers
Teenagers … and anyone who needs traffic reports or help figuring out where they need to go!

11 Product Usage Scenario
Joe, the typical college freshman, just moved to Seattle! He has trouble finding a friend’s house one evening - CellMap to the rescue! Joe and his friend, Bob, decide to see a movie. Fortunately, Joe had the theater’s address saved in his cell phone. CellMap also saves them from getting stuck behind rubber-neckers driving past an accident on I-5.

12 Support and Maintenance
Software from Point B Telematics Additional Servers would be needed to facilitate the increased traffic due to users of CellMap Map database will need to be updated each year

13 Feasibility Rationale
We have constructed a servlet that is able to communicate with the Map Renderer (which runs on Erik’s computer) and produce a black and white map that’s displayed on a web page We have also written a midlet that can retrieve the map graphic from the servlet and display it Risk: Traffic Data feature
