2 1. Globalization - worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade, and communications integration Culture – way of life for a group of people who share similar beliefs and customs 3. Culture region – area where a certain culture(attitude) prevails – the foods eaten, clothing,beliefs, jobs, buildings

3 4. Industrialized country – country in which a lot of manufacturing occurs (U.S., South Africa, Japan) Developing country –country working toward industrialization (Mexico, Sudan, Vietnam) Third World country – country with very little industry (Zambia, Ehiopia, Yemen)

4 7. Dictatorship – government under the control of one all powerful person (determined by force) Democracy – government in which citizens choose the nation’s leaders by voting (direct or representative) Republic – country with a strong national government headed by elected leaders Jakaya Kikwete

5 10. Capitalism (Free enterprise) – economic system that operates on free competition – individuals are allowed to own and operate their own businesses with limited government interference Socialism – economic system where most businesses are owned and operated by the government

Monarchy – government headed by a king or queen (determined by birth) Limited government – everyone, including elected officials, must obey the laws (voting, constitutions, personal freedoms) Unlimited government – ruling group or person does not have to obey the laws, laws can change as the ruler desires (usually no voting, constitutions, very limited freedoms) King Constantine Greece Mao Zedong Communist China
