3 Parallel Lines, Transversals

4 Parallel, Skew, Perpendicular
Two lines are parallel lines if they are coplanar and do not intersect. Lines that do not intersect and are not coplanar are called skew lines. Perpendicular lines are two lines that intersect at a right angle.

5 Parallel, Skew, Perpendicular
Examples: Parallel, Skew, or Perpendicular 𝑨𝑩 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝑭 𝑨𝑩 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑩𝑪 𝑨𝑩 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑫𝑬

6 Transversals A transversal is a line that intersects two or more coplanar lines at different points.

7 Corresponding Angles Postulate
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of corresponding angles are congruent. Equation: angle = angle

8 Corresponding Angles Same location but at different intersections (only travel on the transversal) Are congruent

9 Alternate Interior Angles
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of alternate interior angles are congruent. Equation: angle = angle

10 Alternate Interior Angles
Opposite sides of the transversal & inside the parallels Are congruent

11 Consecutive Interior Angles
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of consecutive interior angles are Supplementary. Equation: angle + angle = 180

12 Consecutive Interior Angles
Same side of the transversal & inside the parallels Are supplementary

13 Alternate Exterior Angles
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of alternate exterior angles are congruent. Equation: angle = angle

14 Alternate Exterior Angles
Opposite sides of the transversal & outside the parallels Are congruent

15 Perpendicular Transversal Theorem
If a transversal is perpendicular to one of the two parallel lines, then it is perpendicular to the other.
