The life of a pebble Kyriakos Thoma & Konstantinos Nikolaou

Hydraulic action This rock is angular. Also it has sharp edges around it. Because the waves force water into the cracks in the rock. That helps to break it. Thus having this shape.

Abrasion This rock has a unique shape. It is smooth and rounded. The waves throw sand and pebbles against the rocks. These wear it away like sandpaper. This is how it gets its round shape.

Solution This rock has many holes on its surface. Because sea water is slightly acidic and dissolves soluble material from the rock. Sea water dissolves rocks made of calcium carbonate such as limestone and chalk. This is why it has this shape.

Attrition This is the last process that happens to the pebble. Chunks of rock will get knocked together and worn into smaller and smaller bits. Then they end up as shingle and sand.
