SCOPE Training March 2018

The New v. Old SCOPE Very similar report and query-generating procedures A small number of choices required to run reports Drag and drop technology to generate queries Different data behind the system For SUD treatment, encounter records from Provider 1 rather than assessment, admission and discharge records from TARGET For SUD treatment, fewer variables collected. No complete ‘Statewide’ results. Not every county is covered by a BHO. Outcome analyses focus on steps in the treatment process (inpatient to outpatient, Detox to treatment) rather than post-treatment outcomes like arrest and employment.

Two Ways to Get Information from SCOPE
Standard Reports Address general questions Formatted Easy to run Provide information on clients, services and outcomes Ad Hoc Queries Can get more specific than a report More choices Can run more complex analyses, more ways to compare and contrast

Today’s Training Briefly demonstrate Standard Reports, focusing on those that are likely to be run more often. Devote most of the time to Ad Hoc Queries. Why? More questions can be answered with queries To get a more complete view of the data we have available To learn how to avoid misinterpreting results An emphasis on using Ad Hoc Queries to answer to specific questions Suggestions Work Together It’s your training session so we can be flexible on what is presented.

Standard Reports Question Report About Clients? About Services?
How many started treatment? SUD-Admissions What were the characteristics of the people served? SUD & MH: Client Characteristics Substance Use patterns SUD Client Characteristics About Services? How many services were delivered to patients? SUD Utilization reports (coming soon) MH State Plan Modality MH Utilization (5 different reports) About Outcomes? For those receiving a more intensive form of treatment, did they follow that up with outpatient services? SUD Residential/Detox 14-day follow up MH Days from Inpatient Discharge to First Service For those requesting MH services, how long did it take to get them? MH Days from Service Request to First Service MH Days from Service Request to Intake How many people were readmitted following an inpatient psychiatric hospitalization? MH Readmission within 30 Days of Hospital Discharge

Ad Hoc Queries: An Example
In 2017, how many clients served in SUD Treatment had graduated from High School?

#3: From July 2016 through June 2017, how many MH Requests for service resulted in an intake service having been received?

#4: In 2017, how many non-white males were admitted to Detox?

#5: In 2017, which BHO had the most MH requests for service for women?

#6: Between July 2016 through June 2017, in the Greater Columbia BHO, how many female clients that were served in treatment had any heroin use? Did more men or women use heroin in that BHO?

# 7: In 2017, what percentage of total clients that were served in Detox were served by the North Sound BHO?

#8: For patients discharged from MH Inpatient facilities in 2017, do a higher percentage of males or females report that they are current smokers?

#9:For those admitted to treatment in the first six months of 2017, what is the average age of 1st use for females whose primary drug is heroin? How does that compare to females whose primary drug is methamphetamine? (note: use the summary format on the primary drug variable)

#10: Among women, which BHO had the highest percentage of any opioid use, among those served in that BHO, in SUD treatment in 2017?

Filter

#11: For men served in SUD treatment in King County in 2016, which primary drug was most common? What percentage of men used the most common primary drug?
