Get Your Books! 1) Come get your Animal Farm books & Portfolios! 2) Look at the list taped on the desk to find YOUR book – the numbers are on the top facing outwards. 3) This book is your exit ticket. You cannot leave without handing me your book personally. 4) You are responsible for this book – if it is missing or damaged, let me know at the BEGINNING of class so you are not held accountable. Otherwise, you must pay to replace the book.

4 2. Write your heading, and title it: Reading Log #1
Your Name My Name Eng II Date Reading Log #1 In the “Writing Journal” tab of your portfolio, start a new journal entry. 2. Write your heading, and title it: Reading Log #1 After each chapter, we will write a short summary and a reflection of what we’ve just read. You will add on to this reading day each class period, and it will count as a project grade for next cycle. If you are absent, you need to catch up on your chapter. The entire book is online:

5 Ch. One: Turn to pg. 1 in your book
Write the number and page of the chapter, and mentally take note of: -characters? -events? -ending? -allusions? -dialogue?

6 Hmmmmm… What happened? THREE MINUTE SUMMARY BREAK! Take a few minutes to write a quick summary over the chapter. Who were some major characters? What were some major events? How did this chapter end? Any important dialogue?

7 Hmmmmm…Now what do I think ? FOUR MINUTE REFLECTION BREAK!
Take four minutes to write a reflection on the chapter – what are your reactions to the events (at least a paragraph). What impressions do you get of the characters here? What kind of leader is Mr. Jones? What do you think of the description of his character? What about Old Major’s ideas? Does this sound fair? Inspiring? Scary? What is the state of the animals at this time – how do they seem to get along or work together? RUSSIAN REVOLUTION: What connection do you think Old Major’s ideas have to the Russian Revolution? Who do you think Farmer Jones might represent from Russia and why?

11 Ok, We’ll stop there! * Hand your reading log in with your book * This is a PROJECT GRADE * You should have NO days missing. If you were absent, you will need to read the chapter you missed (online), and write a paragraph of summary and reflection over it in your notebook (take portfolio if you need to catch up). When the bell rings, please hand me your books and reading logs (personally) on your way out! These are your exit ticket!
