10 Physical and Chemical Change
Characteristics of Physical and Chemical Change

11 Physical or Chemical Change?
Physical Change occurs when no new substance is made, and the change is usually easy to reverse. Chemical Change (or Chemical Reaction) occurs when a new substance is made, and often the change is difficult to reverse. A chemical change is also usually accompanied by a color change, a
different smell, a bright light, a popping sound, or some other feature that our senses can detect. Physical Change Chemical Change both physical and chemical properties are changed chemical properties do not change atoms are rearranged into different molecules only physical properties change atoms do not rearrange energy is often produced no energy is produced by the substance generally easy to reverse changes are not reversible there is a new chemical formula

12 Vocabulary Two or more parts blended together yet keeping their own
properties 1. Conductivity A change that occurs when atoms link together in new ways 2. Insulator Matter that is unable to conduct much electrical, heat, or sound
energy. 3. Combustibility The ability to burn 4. Physical Change The ability to pass energy along from one particle to another 5. Mixture 6. Chemical Change A change in state, shape, or size without the formation of a new
substance.

4. Asia 5. Europe 1. North America 8. Atlantic Ocean 9.Pacific Ocean 3. Africa 7. Pacific Ocean 12. Indian Ocean 2. South America 6. Australia 11. Antarctica

34 Erase and Reveal Modeling

35 Erase and Reveal Hands-on Type in continents Select Line Style
Left click on the color you want your pen to become

36 Move and Reveal Example 1. Heat causes water to evaporate.
2. Water that goes into the air is called water vapor. 3. Cool air makes water vapor condense, or change into a
liquid. 4. What do tiny drops of water form? Clouds 5. In the water cycle, water moves between the ground and
the sky over and over. 6. Rain, snow, and hail are called precipitation.

37 Move and Reveal Modeling

38 Move and Reveal Hands-on Type a sentence
Cover the answer with a square

39 Linking Example Directions: Write the value of the blue digit.
468 849 723 319 243 517 978 631 ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ 749 420 656 843 303 481 652 411

40 Linking Modeling a page in this file website a file on this computer

41 Linking Hands-on practice 2. 1. a file on this computer a website
Left-click the object you want to link Select Link Click Web Page Open the Internet Explorer and go to a page you would use with your
class Highlight the link, left-click, and copy it Open your Notebook file, right-click in the space to link the website Select the Object radio button, and press OK

42 Grouping Example 2. Insulator 5. Mixture 1. Conductivity
A change that occurs when atoms link together in new ways 2. Insulator A change in state, shape, or size without the formation of a new
substance. 3. Combustibility Two or more parts blended together yet keeping their own properties 4. Physical Change The ability to pass energy along from one particle to another 5. Mixture Matter that is unable to conduct much electrical, heat, or
sound energy.

43 Grouping Modeling

44 Grouping Hands-on practice Create a shape
Type something you would want the students to match (definition or
answer to a question) Align them next to each other with a small space between them Left-click, hold, and drag your mouse across both Select the drop-down menu, press Grouping, and Group
