2. What is iso/Enfit?
ISO = International Organization for Standardization
ENFIT = connectors that help reduce tubing misconnections

3. Why do we have to be enfit compliant?
CA Assembly Bill (AB) 444 & – effective 07/01/2016
TJC – Sentinel Event Alert #53 – effective 08/20/2014
Health & Safety Code Section &
ISMP

4. Who has to be enfit compliant ?
Everyone & Anyone who provides enteral feeding!
ALL general acute care hospitals, acute psychiatric hospitals, and special hospitals
Children’s is currently ENFIT compliant
Within CMC this change will affect:
CRMC
CCMC
FHSH
CSTCC
CBHC
Home Health Agencies

5. When do we become enfit complaint ?
ASAP !!! The law went into effect on 01/01/2016 however, many of our Vendors did not have product available until recently.
ALL product has been accounted for with the exception of;
Tamper – evident caps for Pharmacy – still pending FDA approval

6. So where do we go from here?
Trial Products?
Policy Review
Based on usage?
High risk, low volume?
Critical usage?
Recommend we DO NOT trial products which do not have an alternative Vendor with ENFIT product available
No more than a 2 week – 30 day trial based on usage
Based on a TJC Gap Analysis it was recommended that a separate policy on preventing tubing misconnections was created

8. What we need you to DO!
Start discussing with your staff this large product conversion & practice – HLC will soon be assigned to ALL nursing staff
Identify your department’s super users
Identify what products your department will trial
Super-users and educators will be required to attend Vendor Fair however, this will be open to everyone
Review the NEW proposed policy on preventing tubing misconnections – provide feedback to Natasha by 10/30/17
Review established policies in Lucidoc and revise as needed to indicate ENFIT products are required (to be assigned)
Commit to attending (or sending a representative) to these ISO/ENFIT meetings.
