4 Wednesday, August 3, 2016 Learning Target: I will learn about working with a team. Today’s Agenda: Marshmallow Challenge

5 Marshmallow Challenge
Thursday, August 4, 2016 Marshmallow Challenge Materials: 1 yard of string 1 yard of tape 20 sticks of spaghetti 1 marshmallow Build the Tallest Freestanding Structure: The winning team is the one that has the tallest structure measured from the table top surface to the top of the marshmallow. That means the structure cannot be suspended from a higher structure, like a chair, ceiling or chandelier. The Entire Marshmallow Must Be on Top: The entire marshmallow needs to be on the top of the structure. Cutting or eating part of the marshmallow disqualifies the team. Use as Much or as Little of the Kit: The team can use as many or as few of the 20 spaghetti sticks, as much or as little of the string or tape. The team cannot use the paper bag as part of their structure. Break up the Spaghetti, String or Tape: Teams are free to break the spaghetti, cut up the tape and string to create new structures. The Challenge Lasts 18 minutes: Teams cannot hold on to the structure when the time runs out. Those touching or supporting the structure at the end of the exercise will be disqualified. Burchette’s Battle: The tallest structure in each class will earn Maverick Money and Points for their class.

10 Wednesday, August 3, 2016 Stick Figure Instructions For your first ‘project’, you are challenged with making a stick figure. You can do as much or as little with this project as you choose. The only requirements are that your stick figure be large enough to see and small enough to fit in the door. You can use as many or as few materials as you choose. You are going to want to ask me more questions about this assignment, but I will not answer them. There is a reason why I am being vague with this assignment. You are seriously free to do whatever you wish with this one!  Due: Monday, August 8th, 2016

11 Wednesday, August 3, 2016 Homework for Parents It is so important to me that we work together as a team and know each other well! In order to start that off, I have a homework assignment for YOU!  In 1,000 words or less, write a letter that introduces your child to me. I get to know the “student” side of your child, but I know that there is much more to him/her. Please know that I am only reading it for content – I am not concerned with grammar or spelling, and it can be in any language! This assignment can be turned in as soon as it’s finished, but is due on Monday, August 15, Letters may be sent in with your student or ed to the teacher. Even though there is a “due date,” I will accept these letters at any time during the year! Due: Monday, August 15th, 2016
