Because the beds dip at 45o, which is ½ of 90o (a right angle corner of a cube). Angle A measures 60o because of the oblique perspective, therefore the dip on Face 1 is ½ of 60o or 30o . Projecting Bed 1 at 30o to the dotted corner, and then onto Face 2 gives the apparent dip solution (blue lines) by connecting the ends where the corner is cut off. The same techniques are used for Bed 2. The apparent dip of the blue lines is 30o , because the angle is measured from a horizontal line (green) and on a vertical face (3) that is not distorted by an oblique perspective.
