3 What do you know about… Henry VIII?
He loved jousting Henry loved entertaining. He was a keen poet. He enjoyed hunting He wrote music. He spoke four languages.

4 But most important to him…
He wanted to be a strong king, with a strong hold on the throne. He most wanted a son to succeed him. He married the following people to try and have one!

5 Timeline 5 minutes Who was Henry VIII married to for the longest time?
Who was Henry VIII married to for the shortest time? How many of Henry VIII’s wives were beheaded?

Using the information sheet record in your books the following: The name of each of Henry’s wives. When did they marry? Did she have any Children? What happened to her? 10 minutes End

Write a narrative account on the marriages of Henry VIII When historians tell a story about the past they create analytical narratives. The most important feature is that they are written chronological order, so that the story makes sense. The narrative is also written in third person and the past tense.

8 Write a narrative account on the marriages of Henry VIII 1509-1549.
Stage 1: Creating a plan. The first stage is to pick the events you want to cover in your narrative so that you have something to write about. Look at the example plan below and add at least one event yourself. 1509: Henry VIII marries the Catholic Spanish Princess Catherine of Aragon and they have one surviving daughter Mary. 1537: Henry VIII marries Jane Seymour a Protestant she had a son Edward with Henry and was his favourite wife. 1540: Henry marries Anne of Cleves to gain powerful allies but thinks she is ugly and divorces her. 1542: Henry marries Catherine Parr to look after him as he gets older she is a Protestant.

Stage 2: Adding the detail To improve your narrative and get the best possible mark you need to include lots of detail. Example Henry VIII married the Catholic Spanish Princess Catherine of Aragon and had one daughter with her, Mary. Henry VIII married the Catholic Spanish Princess Catherine of Aragon in All of their male babies died which angered Henry who wanted a boy. They had one surviving child, a daughter called Mary. Henry thought Catherine was old and boring when she reached her forties and divorced her to marry Anne Boleyn.
