3 Symbol Something (an object, a setting, event, animal, or even a person) that functions in a story the way that you’d expect it to but ALSO stands for something more that itself, usually something abstract. Example: The color white…

4 A Symbol is : Figurative Language
Like a metaphor, a symbol is something that is identified with something else that is very different from it but that shares some quality. For example: Why are snakes symbolic of evil? What qualities do they share?

5 Allegories Stories in which characters and places stand for virtues and vices. Virtues are good qualities/habits Vices are bad qualities/habits

6 Fable A story where animal characters that symbolize vices and virtues act out a story in order to teach a practical lesson about how to succeed in life.

7 Motif It’s a mini theme! It is recurring elements within particular works, such as phrases, descriptions, symbols, or patterns of Imagery.
