1 Compass & Tracker October 2017
Compass is an online evaluation tool for secondary schools and colleges in England. In recent months we have carried out in-depth user research with Enterprise Coordinators, Enterprise Advisers and School Careers Leads that has informed a number of improvements which will make Compass simpler and quicker to complete from 10 October 2017, alongside a new interactive planning tool, Tracker.

2 What are Compass and Tracker?
Compass: evaluation tool to audit a school/college’s current careers provision against the eight Gatsby Benchmarks Tracker: interactive planning tool that enables a school/college to plan to improve their provision Part of our digital programme, we’re developing a suite of tools to support schools & colleges to evaluate, plan and track their careers activity. Compass is an evaluation tool that will act as an audit of the school’s current careers provision against the eight Gatsby benchmarks for good careers guidance. Tracker is an interactive planning tool that will enable them to create a plan to improve their provision. These two tools will replace the current offline audit and development plan tools currently used by schools and colleges in the Network.

3 What are the benefits of Compass?
For your schools/colleges: Evaluate careers & enterprise activity in around 30 minutes Compare their schools to the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks for good career guidance Identify strengths and areas for improvement Get relevant online resources to help them improve on their score in relation to each benchmark, including dedicated resources to support careers provision for students with SEND The Gatsby benchmarks are widely recognised as the gold standard and these tools will enable schools/colleges to both know where they currently are with their provision, as well as plan to close existing gaps. Your school(s)/college(s) can use the new and improved Compass to: evaluate their careers activity in around 30 minutes compare their school to the eight Gatsby Benchmarks for good careers guidance identify strengths and areas for improvement get relevant online resources to help them improve on their score in relation to each Gatsby benchmark, including dedicated resources to support careers provision for students with SEND. You can see a preview of these resources this afternoon, in The Hub

4 What are the benefits of Tracker?
For your schools/colleges: Build & manage their annual plan for careers & enterprise activity, targeted to gaps Easily record events, classes and all careers activities in one place Access, download and share their plan in Word or Excel format with colleagues, Leadership Teams, OfSTED, governors, Enterprise Coordinators and Enterprise Advisers Evaluate the success of completed activities Tracker brings together all the functions of the audit and development plan, and can be completed in an iterative, easy to use way.

5 Schools will access Compass and Tracker through a new ‘Schools Hub’ portal via our website – ADD URL
Having both tools hosted on the schools hub means that it will all be in one place, and that we can add further tools to the hub as we continue with our digital programme.

6 Once they’ve registered, schools/colleges will arrive on the landing page. Compass is available to all schools & colleges, but the planning tool Tracker will only be available once Compass is completed and if they are a member of the Enterprise Adviser Network. This is to ensure that schools & colleges are supported to make the most of the planning tool and use it effectively as part of their strategic careers & enterprise plan. It also replaces the offline audit and planning tools you currently use, so it should make life easier for everyone!

7 Compass is designed to be quicker and easier to use than previous versions.
We will use the data centrally to learn more about the careers & enterprise activity that is happening in a school. We will never identify an individual school or groups of schools.

8 Once you have added simple details about your school, the tool goes through each of the 8 benchmarks in turn – first defining the benchmark, then providing a series of multiple choice questions. The progress bar at the top shows how far you are through the survey. There is the option to save and return to the tool later.

9 Simple, easy to complete multiple choice questions related to each benchmark.

10 On the Results page, you get a simple, traffic light indication per benchmark.

11 And you can expand to see the gaps within each benchmark with an at-a-glance breakdown of results.
The whole report can be downloaded, printed, or shared electronically with colleagues. The results will link to Tracker, so that you can start to build the careers & enterprise plan related to the gaps from the Compass report.

12 Coming Soon: Tracker is in the final stages of development and will be with you very soon.
