2 Zheng He Early Ming emperors (China) built up a navy so they could sail to foreign ports and collect tribute for the emperor – Yonglo(Hongwu-son). Zheng He(Jung Huh) was the admiral of seven of these voyages. The cost of these trips increased as time passed and it was thought that trade was the lowest of occupations, .

4 Spain ‘s quest for Riches
Christopher Columbus- In 1492, Columbus (an Italian) went west across the Atlantic to find a different route to Asia He actually landed in the Caribbean. He thought he was off the coast of India. Significance open way for colonization of Americas

5 Ferdinand Magellan Ferdinand Magellan- In 1519,
a Portuguese soldier of fortune set sail under the Spanish flag to find a western route to Asia. Discovered Philippine Islands and South America became the first to circumnavigate, or circle, the globe.

6 France and Great Britain
James Cook -1st explorer to prevent scurvy, sailed for Great Britain, Helped scientists figure out the size of the solar system, 1769 he landed in New Zealand, 1770 Australia Samuel de Champlain – founded Quebec in 1608/ Canada to establish a trading post , sailed for France
