Beginning the Experiment
1. Problem: What is it that you are trying to solve? 2. Observation/Background information: Using your senses, observe and learn about something that interests you.
6
Moving Further 3. Hypothesis:
an educated guess, using what you already know to predict what may happen under various circumstances. Identify your variables in this section. Dependent, Independent, and Control 4. Materials: What is needed to make the experiment possible.
7
Doing it 5. Procedure The instructions you need to follow in order to complete the experiment. Unless stated otherwise, be sure to follow all procedures as instructed. 6. Data Collection The information you gather from your experiment: Observations, measurements, charts, and drawings.
8
Wrapping - up 7. Conclusions
This is when you analyze the information you just processed. Example: Based upon the data and the information that was collected, I can conclude that most teenagers, between the ages of 10 and 15, prefer the Vlassic Pickle brand over the Generic Kroger Pickle brand.
9
Identify the 7 steps of the scientific method
10
There are a total of 7 slips.
Activity: Scientific Struggle You and your lab partner will have 30 seconds to place all the steps of the scientific method in order. Only one person from your team can run up and grab the baggie with the steps inside. The steps are not written on the slips of paper. You must figure out what step of the scientific method each part is. There are a total of 7 slips. Materials Steps of the scientific method.
