Mao wanted to eliminate his enemies and other individuals who were considered to be opposed to communism

Many Chinese citizens were persecuted, exiled, or killed by Mao and his supporters This time period ended upon the death of Mao in 1976

Peaceful protest rally that continued growing each day

The Chinese government, fearing a revolution, dispatched soldiers to disperse the crowd The soldiers began using their weapons, and thousands of Chinese were killed
