An eclipse happens when the shadow of one object in space falls on another.
There are two types
Solar eclipse
Lunar eclipse

3. When does an eclipse occur?
They only occur when the sun Earth and moon line up
This does not happen monthly due to the tilt of the orbit of the moon.

This happens when the moon is between the Earth and the sun (during a New Moon).

Annular solar eclipse: moon is shadowing the Earth but it does not completely block out the sun.

The next solar eclipse in the U.S. will be April 8th It will not be visible in TN but you can travel to see it.

11. Lunar Eclipse
A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth is between the sun and the moon and the Earth’s shadow falls on the moon.
Lunar eclipses only occur on a Full Moon

The moon looks red because the blue light is being filtered out by the atmosphere leaving only red rays to reflect off the moon.

The next one we can see will be July 16, 2019 ( but it will only be a partial eclipse)
