3 Three Actions that “Break through the Wall” Wake Forest conference “Rethinking Success” April 2012
Articulate institutional value and be accountable for results Align resources with goals Leverage relationships Curran Consulting Group Career Centers can’t hide; must be institutional players. That means articulating how they are are essential not just to student success, but to their institution’s strategic goals. Your career director must be visible and be part of the conversation. And, it’s got to be clear where accountability lies. Second, there has to be much better discipline about where money is spent in Careers offices. Right now, most of the money goes to staffing, but ask yourself the question: are the tasks on which staff spend the most time the ones that have the best chance of achieving best results for students? Too much time is spent on counseling. The new model requires a different organizational structure and approach: Careers professionals must become “orchestrators of opportunity”
