1 Bay of Pigs Invasion By: Ryan, Ryan, Jok, TÏ

2 Why did the United States feel they needed to invade?
Fulgencio Batista was the American-supported leader until 1959, Fidel Castro overthrew him and immediately reduced American influence on Cuba. Fidel was allied with the Soviet Union which deeply concerned the United States. In return, in an attempt to end the communist threat in Cuba, the United States invaded.

3 Who did they get to invade?
The United States recruited exiles from Cuba who had recently fled the country to invade.

4 What countries were involved?
The countries directly involved were the United States and Cuba, but a big part of the invasion was to show Russia and China that the U.S. was serious about winning the cold war.

5 What was the outcome of the invasion?
The outcome was a total disaster for the United States, Cuban planes shot down ships before the ammunition could be unloaded, and the ground soldiers landed in either the wrong place or swamps, which ended in them being captured and eventually put in prisons. As a result of this, the U.S. government looked weak and led Castro to considering the Soviet Union as a military ally.

6 Who were the historical personalities involved and their roles?
President Dwight D. Eisenhower- ordered CIA to train and arm the Cuban exiles President John F. Kennedy- Inherited Eisenhower’s plan and gave permission for the invasion. Fidel Castro- Took over Cuba’s government who blocked off the US’s involvement in Cuba. Fulgencio Batista- Pro-American Cuban President who was overthrown by Fidel Castro.
