Preparing for the SAGE Assessment Disclaimer: The SAGE test is just one assessment schools use to measure knowledge & progress. It is a benchmark of your learning, but not necessarily an all-inclusive representation of all of your academic abilities. GOAL- DO YOUR BEST! From the end of March through May, students in Utah will be taking end of level, SAGE (Student Assessment of Growth & Excellence) tests in English, Science, & Math. These tests are designed to measure student success & growth. Performance on this test can help you & your teachers evaluate your understanding of Core content & guide instructional practice. Your learning & knowledge will contribute to your success on this test, as well as your effort and test-taking abilities. This presentation has several tips to optimize your SUCCESS on the SAGE!

FUNCTIONS PROCESS: To best access your long-term memory, it is critical that you calm your AMYGDALA (fight/flight response/ test anxiety) so your knowledge & ability to problem-solve can take place in your Working Brain/Pre-frontal Cortex. AMYGDALA: 2:02

5 Optimize Brain Performance
*ATTEND SCHOOL REGULARLY SO YOU DON’T MISS INFORMATION/ REVIEWS. Get a good night’s sleep Eat a healthy breakfast Stay hydrated: drink water Avoid caffeine & sugar

6 Optimize Brain Performance
On the day of the test, stay calm & focused. Use positive self-talk & affirmations instead of focusing on your stress or lack of confidence. Keep your efforts up throughout all three SAGE assessments.

7 Before & During the Test:
Calm your Amygdala Try these MINDFULNESS strategies throughout the assessment. Take notice of your surroundings/ senses. Take notice of your body sitting in the chair/ body scan. Take notice of your BREATH—take a few deep breaths. Don’t worry or pay attention to anyone else’s progress. Visualize SUCCESS!

8 During the Test Read the directions completely.
Utilize scratch paper to work through problems. Eliminate wrong answers & follow your instinct on the correct choice. Evaluate & plan your time; utilize all time given; don’t rush. Use Mindfulness strategies to stay calm & focused.
