1 AIRCRAFT NATIONALITY AND REGISTRATION MARKS

2 INTRODUCTION Chicago Convention – Article 17
“Aircraft have the nationality of the State in which they are registered” Chicago Convention – Article 20 “Every aircraft engaged in international air navigation shall bear its appropriate nationality and registration marks” Article 37 Chicago Convention: “The ICAO shall adopt and amend from time to time, as may be necessary, international standards and recommended practices and procedures dealing with (f) Registration and identification of aircraft”

Regulation 3: Aircraft to be registered. If the aircraft is not registered, it cannot fly over Malaysia. Exemption: begins and ends in Malaysia without passing over any other State is in accordance with the "B Conditions" set out in the Second Schedule any kite or captive balloon

5 MCAR PART V: AIRWORTHINESS AND EQUIPMENT OF AIRCRAFT
Condition B The flight is supervision by a person approved by the DG If the aircraft is not registered in Malaysia, it shall be marked in a manner approved by the DG and should comply with Malaysian regulations. The aircraft shall fly only for the purpose of testing the aircraft, engines, and its equipment qualifying for certification or approval for modification proceed to or from a place at which inspection, approval, test or weighing is to take place The aircraft carry flight crew that can ensure the aircraft safety.

Regulation 4: Registration of aircraft in Malaysia. Owner or shareholders of a legal Malaysian aircraft: the Government of Malaysia a citizen of Malaysia a body incorporated and having its principal place of business in Malaysia An aircraft shall not be registered or continue to be registered in Malaysia if: the aircraft is registered outside Malaysia. an unqualified person is entitled as owner it would be inappropriate in the public interest for the aircraft to be or to continue to be registered in Malaysia

Regulation 5: Aircraft Register. The Aircraft Register shall include the following particulars in relation to each aircraft: the number of the certificate the nationality mark of the aircraft and the registration mark the name of the constructor of the aircraft and its designation the serial number of the aircraft the name and address of every person who is entitled as owner A certificate of registration will be issued by the DG

Regulation 6: Nationality and registration marks An aircraft shall not fly unless it bears painted the nationality and registration marks The marks to be borne by a Malaysian aircraft shall comply with Part B of the First Schedule

10 SECTION B – FIRST SCHEDULE
National mark shall be numeral "9" and the roman capital letter "M", Registration marks shall be a group of three or more capital letters in roman character. A hyphen shall be placed between the nationality mark and the registration mark. The nationality and registration marks shall be painted on the aircraft.

Position of Marks - Fuselage (or equivalent structure) and vertical tail surface Shall also be either on each side of the fuselage between the wings and the tail surfaces, or on the upper halves of the vertical tail surfaces. When located on a single vertical tail surface, they shall be on both sides of the tail.

Position of Marks - Wings Appear once on the lower surface of the wing structure, located on the left half of the lower surface unless they extend across the whole of the lower surface of the wing structure. So far as possible, the marks shall be located halfway between the leading and trailing edges of the wings. The tops of the letters and numbers shall be towards the leading edge of the wing.

Size of Marks Wings : Equal height ( 50 cm) Fuselage (or equivalent structure) or vertical tail surface: Fuselage: shall not interfere with the visible outlines of the fuselage. Equal height ( 30 cm)* Vertical tail: shall leave a margin of at least 5 cm along each side of the vertical tail surface. Equal height ( 30 cm)* Note: if height is not reasonably practical then ( 15 cm)

Form, Width and Spacing of Marks Letters : Capital letter + Roman characters Number: Arabic numeral. Width of character and hyphen: 2/3 heights of a character (except I and 1) Line Thickness: 1/6 character height Shall be formed by solid lines and colour contrasting clearly with the background. Character spacing: 1/2 from character width.
