2
Nitrogen cycle N Fixation – N2 to ammonium Ammonification- dead/waste to ammonium Nitrification - ammonium to nitrate Nitrification Assimilation - plants use nitrates Assimilation Denitrification – excess nitrates to N2 Denitrification
3
ENERGY SOURCES Nonrenewable: Fossil Fuels= Coal, Oil Natural Gas Nuclear Energy- Nuclear Fission Renewable: Hydroelectric, Passive/Active Solar, Photovoltaic, Geothermal, Biomass, Tidal Know how we get energy from each. Know advantages/ disadvantages.

Layers of the Atmosphere
5
aquaculture
6
Tectonic plate movement
DIVERGENT CONVERGENT TRANSFORM SUBDUCTION ZONE
7
WATTS YOU NEED TO MEMORIZE THESE! 1MW= 1000KW 1 KW=1000W TO GET KWH… MULTIPLY THE KW USED BY THE # OF HRS USED
8
Speaking of Math… Put units on EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!
Also, double check the question to make sure your final answer is in the correct units. Example: The rate of increase in sea level is 3mm/year. Calculate the expected increase, in meters, during the next 50 years.

14
Mercury- env impacts
15
biomagnification
16
Ecological vs. economic
For FRQs…. Ecological Effect must include an effect on the ecosystem. Be really specific with identifying the problem AND the actual EFFECT (problem.) Economic Effect must include the words “money, jobs, income, etc.” Not enough to say that storms damage homes- you would need to talk about the $$$ needed for damage/replacement.
17
Ozone depletion Ozone Depleting Chemicals
CFCs (coolants, aerosol spray cans) Halons (fire extinguishers) Methyl Bromide (pesticide)
