2 Malachi 4: 4-6 4 “Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel. 5 “See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.”

3 Over the last few weeks, we have been looking within “Malachi,” at how some of its End Times Prophecies will likely be fulfilled. One of the interesting links between the Old Testament, New Testament, & the End Times is the prophet Elijah.

4 Elijah originally appeared in 1 Kings 17 through 2 Kings 2, with him not dying on Earth…but being transported by God to Heaven in a whirlwind (2 Kings 2:11). Enoch is the only other person we know of to go straight to Heaven. (Genesis 5:24)

5 [The priests and Levites] asked him,
John 1:21 [The priests and Levites] asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.”

6 Matthew 11: 13-15 13 “For all the Prophets and the Law
prophesied until John. 14 And if you are willing to accept (receive) it, he is the Elijah who was to come.  15 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”

7 Matthew 17: 9-13 After seeing a “glorified Jesus” briefly meet with “glorified Moses” and “glorified Elijah” at The Transfiguration, the Apostles ask more questions about Elijah’s future role.

8 Jesus laments over Jerusalem
Matthew 23: (70 A.D.) Jesus laments over Jerusalem and their stubbornness to repent; as well as the future devastation that will come.

9 in Revelation 11: 3-13 (also Zech. 4: 1-14).
An additional role for the “Elijah” figure relates to the End Times passages found in Revelation 11: 3-13 (also Zech. 4: 1-14). These “two witnesses” (“two olive trees”) prophesy, do miracles, defiantly stand against the Antichrist, are martyred, and then are resurrected & return to Heaven.
