3 AfDB intervention as part of Transport Portfolio Diversification.
Historically, the Bank had focused on roads and corridor. Today, the Bank is diversifying its portfolio to include: Urban mobility ICT Airport development Rail development Port development Port development from both sovereign or private finance stand point.

4 Positioning ports in the supply chain to facilitate modal shift.
The Bank is involved: Port studies (e.g. master plan, feasibility , planning, engineering, transaction preparation etc…) Port side infrastructure Land side infrastructure Facilitation (e.g. OSBP, IT, regulation, agreements…) Road (corridor) Rail (corridor) Waterways (engaging)

5 Port growth estimates: Economic assumptions of our research - TEU forecast shows an increase of annual throughput from 22 million TEU (2013 est.) to 140 million TEU in 2050 on the continent.

6 Investment estimates: The forecasted investment in the necessary container port infrastructure, superstructure and equipment is based on: - First wave: 40 million TEU per annum an additional capacity on stream in 2025: 40 Billion USD - Second wave: additional 80 million TEU per annum on stream in 2050: Billion USD Additional cargo segments, such as dry bulk and oil products, the estimates could increase to approximately times the above numbers.

7 AfDB currently conducting comprehensive study on: Financing Ports in Africa, Potential for PPP
The study will produce: An African Ports Databook (67 major ports in all 38 coastal countries). Case study of Port PPP Projects Port management models. Advisory and knowledge services Sharpening the interventions and services of the Bank to materialize PPP port projects. Source: MTBS

8 This study will also help the Bank in identification and selection of potential interventions, as well as position in the development cycle. Source: MTBS
