2 Icebreaker- Three Things in Common
Students get in groups of three or four. Each group must find three things that they have in common with each other. The weirder those things are — the better.  After 10 minutes each group announces the three things they have in common. 

3 Learning Target and Agenda
Learning Target: I can learn about mandalas and practice creating one. Agenda: History of Mandalas Video Activity- Create a Mandala Exit Slip

4 What is a Mandala? A mandala is usually a circular diagram symbolizing an ideal universe. “Mandala" is the Sanskrit word for “circle."

5 History of Mandalas Mandalas were originated in the 4th century as part of Buddhism. They were used in Tibet, India, Nepal, China, and Japan, among other countries. Now they are created throughout the world.

6 Meditation Mandalas Mandalas have often been used as a tool to help strengthen meditation and increase focus.

7 Creation of a Sand Mandala

8 This student created a “mood mandala” based on her emotions at the time.

9 Activity Create your own “Mood Mandala” or choose one of the mandala coloring sheets to complete.

10 Exit Slip What is a mandala? In what shape are mandalas usually?
