2. A) Off street Parking/Passenger Loading
There were 6 adequate and accessible paved parking spaces
Width = 9 ft wide + 4 ft wide aisle
One van accessible space: 9 ft wide w/ 8 ft aisle
All accessible parking spaces closest to Campus Ministry were on route to the entrance
No clear signage indicating route to Campus Ministry from accessible parking spaces
Spaces contained the International Symbol of Accessibility and are patrolled by public safety
Deglman Circle
~500 ft from the entrance
Great location for loading and unloading passengers as there was adequate space, easy accessibility, and close proximity to Campus Ministry.
Recommendations
Add visual route from parking spaces to entrance of Campus Ministry.
Repave Deglman Circle to reduce bumps and cracks while loading and unloading passengers.

3. B) Approach to selected entrance
Distance from parking area to facility: ~1,000 feet
You have to park in the back of the building and come around the side to get to the elevator and ramps
There were no signs for handicap accessible areas
Loading zone to the door of the building (slope):
The ramps were compliant with the ADA checklist
Recommendations
Have closer parking area to the facility and/or handicap spaces available in Deglman Circle

4. C) Entrance
There is an accessible entrance, but no signs on inaccessible entrances indicating the location of the nearest accessible entrance
Threshold beveled edge= ½ inch in height
Non-slip mats= ¼ inch in height
Edges of mats were not securely installed
Entrance door:
No double doors, stairs or ramp
Vestibule doors with automatic door opener (38” from ground) that is accessible for w/c and walker
Has a clear opening (33”)
There is enough clear wall space on the pull side of the door next to the handle, which allows a person using a w/c or crutches to get close enough to open the door (21”)
Handle is at an accessible height (39” from ground)
Recommendations
Install signs before inaccessible entrances so that people do not have to retrace the approach
Secure mats edges at entrance

5. D) Access to Essential Areas
All essential areas were on an easily accessible route (counters, bathrooms, elevators, offices)
Turning space was available in all essential areas
Emergency exit door was accessible but led into a stairwell
Recommendations
Remove clutter in the seating areas
Provide wheelchair spaces in seating area
Put brochures on an accessible table

The bathrooms were clearly marked and labeled as handicap accessible with tactile signage
Bathroom door pushes open with no handle
Door was heavy and hard to maneuver through
Door was 34” wide, but entry was less than 5’x5’
Sink was wheelchair accessible (cut out was 29”)
Faucet handles were easy to maneuver and paper towels were within reach
There was not one stall which was fully accessible; but there was one stall which was more accessible than the rest
3 ft X 3 ft (clear of the door swing)
There was no turn space within stall (see previous picture)
Toilet: height 18 inches
Had grab bars but due to inability to move wheelchair around, an anterior-posterior transfer from w/c to toilet is required
Recommendations
Take out pillar in entry of the restrooms to provide more turn space
Provide and automatic door switch on the bathrooms or a lighter door
Make the handicap stall wider to leave turn space for transfers

8. F) Public Telephones and Water Fountains
No drinking fountains or telephone were found in campus ministry
There was a desk/secretary phone that could be used for an emergency
Recommendations
Install a water fountain near the restrooms that is at an accessible height (approx. ~35 “ high with front controls; see example to right)

9. G) Access for the Visually Impaired
Braille signage was provided on the entrance to each room, including the elevators
There was no voice activated assistance in the facility
Recommendations
Higher contrast in the bathroom
Better lighting in the bathroom and hallway
Have the braille within reaching distance

10. H) Assistance/Physical Aids Available
Ramps
Automatic door openers
Grab bars in the bathroom stall
Signs to offices were legible

11. I) Recommendations Signs to show handicap accessible entrance areas
Provide an automatic door switch for the bathroom doors to allow for easier entrance and exit
Larger handicap stall to allow for transfers
