3 The Prophet and Husain The story of Karbala begins with the birth of Husain. The Holy Prophet had shown great affection and love for his grandson, but there was something more profound in this love. Several times when young Husain entered the mosque the Prophet would put him in his lap and tell his companions that this is Husain, look at him and remember him. The Prophet’s insistence to remember Husain shows that those who will forget this event will cause trouble in Islam.

4 There are some similarities between Jesus Christ and Husain
Both of them rejected tyranny and the wrongful Both gave themselves in the way of freedom, salvation, dignity and righteous aspect of life. Their path is one and their salvation is by following their path of peace and justice. Al-Husain will remain as a revolution against all tyrants and oppressors. Al-Husain will continue as a symbol for dignity and freedom for all mankind and not only the Shi’as Muslims.

13 Husain: In Glorifying Almighty God
There is no Lord but Thee, glory be to Thee! I am of those who profess Thy Oneness. There is no Lord but Thee, glory be to Thee! I am one of the fearing. There is no Lord but Thee, glory be to Thee! I am one of those who are afraid There is no Lord but Thee, glory be to Thee! I am one of the hopeful. There is no Lord but Thee, glory be to Thee! I am one of those who yearn.

14 About Husain: Thomas Carlyle explains: (Scottish historian and essayist)
The best lesson which we get from the tragedy of Karbala is that Husain and his companions were rigid believers in God. They illustrated that the numerical superiority does not count when it comes to the truth and the falsehood. The victory of Husain, despite his minority, marvels me!” Husain explains the mission of his sacrifice in his own words: “I have taken this stand not out of arrogance or pride, neither out of mischief or injustice. I have risen to seek reform in the community of my grandfather. I would like to bid good, forbid evil, and follow the tradition of my grandfather the Prophet and my father ‘Ali bin Abi Talib.”

15 About Husain: Charles Dickens writes: (English novelist)
“If Husain had fought to quench his worldly desires, as alleged by certain Christian critics: then I do not understand why his sister, wife, and children accompanied him. It stands to reason therefore, that he sacrificed purely for Islam.”

16 Al-Husain: Select Sayings
O' God! Surely you know that whatever we did was not a competition to gain worldly positions nor for the petty physical attractions of the world. But to show the Ways of religious And to remove corruption from Thy lands, So that the oppressed feel secured and act according to Thy teachings and rules. (Tuhaf-al- Uqoul, P. 239) I never revolted in vain, as a rebel or as a tyrant, but I rose up to seek reform for the nation of my grandfather Muhammad. I intend to enjoin good and forbid evil, To act according to the traditions of my grandfather, and my father Ali Ibn Abi-Talib. (Bihar al- Anwar, Vol. 44, P. 329)
