2008 Review
The 2008 competition saw a complete redesign of Astons entry incorporating a brand new redesigned carbon monocoque chassis and the use of a Rotax 500cc V twin engine with integrated CVT, a first for FS.
After a fraught year of design, redesign, building and even some testing time the competition ran very smoothly with the 08 car flying through all of the scrutineering disciplines with time to spare and then being able to compete in all of the dynamic events with very promising times.
Only a broken driveshaft on day 3 managed to slow, but not stop the Aston charge but unfortunately after a long night fixing the problem it came back to haunt us during the endurance test on the final day and we were unable to finish dropping us down the results table once all of the points were added up
With a respectable mid table finishing position in what is a fiercely competitive international competition, Astons 2009 Formula Student Team is now being formed with a new bunch of keen and enthusiastic Final Year students looking to break into the so far illusive top ten position.
A big thanks must go to all of our sponsors who helped us to achieve so much in such a short academic year and we hope that we can carry on our successful partnerships into and beyond 2009.

2. 2009 Expectations
2008 was always going to be a demanding year on the formula student team with seemingly every project going back to the drawing board in an attempt to realise the promise that has been shown in previous years.
Fortunately for the 2009 team members 2008 went very smoothly with all of the team pulling together to create a very successful race car, so where now for the Aston Formula Student Team?
The only way is up. This years team will build on what was learnt last year and will build a development version of the 08 car.
New for 2009 will be:
Redesigned chassis and engine packaging
Increase in engine size from 500cc to 610cc
Redesigned uprights, increase strength and decrease weight
By no means are Aston going to be resting on what was achieved on 2008 but will continue the push for a top ten finishing position in 2009
