22 What is an archetype? In your notebook, review the names of these images. Next, try to create a definition of an archetype. What is an archetype? Create a list of criteria (characteristics) of an archetype. Start by answering these questions: Where do they exist? When do they exist? How do they exist? In what do they exist?

23 The origin of ARCHETYPES
Carl Jung, (1875 – 1961) was a Swiss psychiatrist, an influential thinker and the founder of Analytical Psychology. Though not the first to analyze dreams, he is one of the best known researchers in the field of dream analysis and symbolization.

24 The Theory: *Both the reader and writer share memories derived from this collective unconscious. *When we encounter these memories or images in stories, they create very strong emotional reactions, as we can relate to them unconsciously.

25 Archetype Definition: In literature and art an archetype is:
a character, a tradition, an event, a story or an image, that recurs in different works, in different cultures, and in different periods of time.
