3. The Yellow Wallpaper Background:
Since we are beginning our Catcher in the Rye unit, and will be using the psychological critical lens to examine the novel, it felt fitting to give you a short story about a woman’s descent into madness. It is written as if it were a series of journal entries.
This story was first published in 1892 in New England. The language is a bit antiquated, but you should be able to follow along pretty well. Do your best.

4. The Yellow Wallpaper We will read this story independently.
After each “journal entry,” compare the narrator’s mental state to that of the previous entry. Draw a connection between her deteriorating mental state and her description of the wallpaper.
