Congress is the Legislative Branch of the National Government. The most important job of Congress is to make laws.

4 The Responsibilities of Lawmaking
Each member of Congress represents a group of citizens much smaller than the nation. One of the member's major responsibilities is to his/her constituents, the people he/she represents. A member of Congress also has a responsibility to his/her political party. A party is an organization of people who share certain ideas about what Government should do.

5 The Responsibilities of Lawmaking
5.Most members of Congress belong to either the Republican or Democratic party. 6. Interest groups are groups of people who work together for similar interest or goals. 7. They can supply both votes and money for members of Congress running for election. 8. A member of congress plays a second important role as a servant of the people. 9. They give information and help to constituents.

6 Members of Congress at work
Members of Congress spend a great deal of time learning about the wide range of issues on which they must vote. Each day, members of Congress go to meetings. Every day, dozens of people compete for their time- a fellow member with questions about a bill, a lobbyist with arguments against one, a constituent visiting the capitol.
