1 Warm-Up Cut out the images on your paper.
Glue them onto Page 1 of your notebook like the picture shows. Students will pick up their materials for their ISN. They will cut them materials out and paste them into their notebooks. SET TIMER: 3:00 MINUTES

2 Coordinate Planes 5.G.A.1 and 2
Play the Flocab video to “hook” students

3 Learning Target I can graph ordered pairs in the first quadrant on a coordinate plane. I can EXPLAIN the distance between two different ordered pairs. Repeat after me.

4 Our Goal 1) Which describes the distance between watermelon and the pepper? 2 units south, 6 units east. 6 units west, 2 units north. 6 units east, 2 units north. 2 units north, 6 units west. 2) What is the distance between the pumpkin and the pineapple? 3) Plot the ordered pair (6,5). pepper Pumpkin watermelon pineapple

5 In fifth grade, we only focus on the first quadrant.
Coordinate Plane The origin is where the x and y axis intersect. The ordered pair of the origin is (0,0). The x-axis is horizontal- it has been “knocked- out”, so it is laying down. The y-axis is vertical- it was victorious standing straight and tall. Refer to notebook pg. 1 to explain

6 Song to Help Us plane/

7 You Watch Me- Coordinate Grid
1. (3,6) (0,5) (2,0)

8 You Try and I will Help (3 , 8) (10 , 2) (0 , 4) (5, 10)
You will get a coordinate grid sheet. Plot the ordered pairs. When I say “Ready to Rock”, trade coordinate grids with your yellow/green partner. I will know that you have swapped when you say “Ready to Roll”. They will check your work. (3 , 8) (10 , 2) (0 , 4) (5, 10)

9 Let’s Practice We will play on two teams.
I will appoint one captain on each team. As a team, you will plot 3 points that are either vertical, horizontal, or diagonal on your coordinate grid I give you. Each team will choose two ordered pairs. The captain will select a person to go plot and label the two points they chose on their opponents coordinate grid. The student that recorded the two ordered pairs will call out each order pair. The captain of the other team will say, “hit or miss.”

10 Warm Up On a piece of notebook paper, answer the question.
Remember to EXPLAIN (tell how). Place in your binder when you are finished.

11 Learning Target I can graph ordered pairs in the first quadrant on a coordinate plane. I can EXPLAIN the distance between two different ordered pairs. Repeat after me.

12 Distance: You can use directions or units
You watch me: How would you go from point B to A? You try: How would you go from point D to A? F

13 A Little Different 1) You must be able to DESCRIBE how to get from one point to another. How would you go from point E to C? Travel 5 units north, 1 unit west. Travel 5 units north, 1 unit east. Travel 1 unit west, 5 units south. Travel 5 units south, 1 unit west. 2) What is the distance from the letter D to the letter F? F

14 You Try and I will Help Use the proper directions
Yellow: How would you go from Saturn the sun? How would you go from Earth to the Sun? Green: List the order pair for each space object.

15 You Try a Few More Apple DESCRIBE the distance from the apple to the red chili pepper? What would the order pair of the strawberry be if I move it 4 units west and 3 units south? DESCRIBE the distance from the tomato to the pineapple? Red chili pepper 1.) What do the apple and red chili pepper have in common? (They share the y-coordinate.) 2.) This is a multi-step problem. How are you going to solve this? What is your strategy? 3.) What do the tomato and pineapple have in common? (They share the same y-coordinate.) 4.) What about the pepper and the onion? Tomato Pineapple

16 Evaluate Me If I walk from the school to the playground, I will travel 1 unit south, 3 units east. Am I correct?

17 Prove IT!!! Can You Hit The Target?
Can you plot an ordered pair in the first quadrant of the coordinate grid? Can you explain the distance between two different ordered pairs on a coordinate grid? Prove IT!!!

18 Exit Ticket pepper Pumpkin watermelon pineapple
Which describes the distance between watermelon and the pepper? 2 units south, 6 units east. 6 units west, 2 units north. 6 units east, 2 units north. 2 units north, 6 units west. 2) What is the distance between the pumpkin and the pineapple? 3) Plot the ordered pair (6,5). pepper Pumpkin watermelon pineapple
