Israel is unique because its history is recorded in the Bible
God’s purposes and actions are revealed clearly in Israel's history.
Around 2091 BC God revealed himself to a man named Abram.
Abram lived in Ur.
What do we know about Ur?

3. Israel’s Beginning God revealed himself to Abram.
God asked Abram to leave Ur and follow Him.
God gave Abram many promises and changed his name to Abraham.
These promises are called the Abrahamic Covenant.

4. Israel’s Beginning God promised to bless Abraham and his family.
Abraham showed that he believed in God by doing what God said.
He moved his family to Canaan.

5. Abraham and His Sons
Because of God’s promise to Abraham the nation of Israel emerged.
Not all of Abraham’s sons received God’s promise.
God chose Isaac.
And From Isaac, Jacob was chosen.

6. Abraham and His Sons God then chose all of Jacob’s 12 sons.
These 12 tribes would become the nation Israel.

8. Israelites in Egypt During Jacob’s life a great famine hit.
God had already allowed Joseph to go to Egypt.
Joseph interpreted Pharaoh's dream; and later became a ruler in Egypt.
When the famine struck, Joseph made sure his brothers were given good land to live in.

9. Israelites in Egypt After about 400 years, Israel had grown massively.
Egypt concerned about the growth decided to kill all male babies.

God sent Moses to deliver them.
Moses had a unique journey.

After the death of Pharaoh's Son – Exodus.

13. Moses following God’s direction led them to Mt. Sinai.
God declared for Israel to be “set apart” from all nations.

14. God gave the nation of Israel His laws for them.
This is known as Mosaic Law.
God promised if they followed His law, he would protect them.
However, if they chose not to listen they would be defeated.
