The Parables of The Lost Sheep,
The Lost Coin and The Lost Son Luke 15 The 3rd message in our series on the Gospel of Luke (Part 3).

2. The Parables of the Lost …. Luke 15
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
Luke 15:1,2 NIV

3. Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.

7. The Lost Son – His Degradation
1. Divides the Estate (v.12) Selfishness Disposes of the Inheritance (v.13) Disrespect 3. Departs for a Distant Country (v.13) Alienation Depletes his Cash with Decadent Living (v.14) Self-indulgence 5. Disgraces himself by Tending Pigs (v.15,16)

8. The Lost Son – His Restoration
Three Steps 1. Return home (v.18a) 2. Confess to his father and to heaven (v.18b) Offer exchange of sonship for servanthood (v.19) The Confession “Father I have sinned against heaven and against you I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.”

9. The Lost Son – The Father’s Extravagant Welcome (1)
1. Already waiting for the lost son v Sees him at a distance Is filled with compassion for his son 4. Runs to his son 5. Embraces and kisses his son 6. Hears the essential part of the confession then interrupts v.21, Reinstates son and launches a celebration v.22-24

10. The Lost Son – The Father’s Extravagant Welcome (2)
“Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” Luke 15:23,24

Disrespect of father (v.29)
Complaints of slaving (v.29)
Claims of perfect obedience (v.29)
