1 Multiplying and Dividing Decimals
Ly Matej

2 Multiplying Decimals Step 1: Line up the numbers as if there were no decimals DO NOT add “0” as place holders Step 2: multiply as if you had whole numbers Step 3: count the number of decimal places in each number Step 4: the total will be how many decimal places are in your answer

3 Multiplying Decimals 4.07 x 3.1
Step 1:Line up the numbers as if there were no decimals 407 + 12 210 Step 2: multiply as if you had whole numbers 12 617

4 Multiplying Decimal . 4.07 2 Decimal places
Step 3: count the number of decimal places in each number. x 3.1 + 1 Decimal places 407 + 12 210 . 12 617 3 Decimal places Step 4: the total will be how many decimal places are in your answer.

5 Dividing Decimals Rule 1: the divisor may NEVER be a decimal. It must be a whole number. Rule 2: if you move the decimal in the divisor (outside number), you MUST move the decimal in the dividend (inside number) the SAME number of places. Rule 3: after moving the decimal in the dividend, shift the decimal UP into your answer, immediately.

6 Dividing Decimals . . . Rule 1: the divisor may NEVER be a decimal 2 9
5 Rule 2: If you move the decimal in the divisor (outside number), you MUST move the decimal in the dividend (inside number) the SAME number of places. 2 2 . 6 4 . 9 -4 4 2 0 -1 98 11 -110 Rule 3: After moving the decimal in the dividend, shift the decimal UP into your answer, immediately.
