8. Depression A very long, very harsh economic downturn.
In a depression, banks fail, millions of people don’t have jobs, businesses fail, and many people are very poor.

9. Recession A slower, shorter and less extreme economic downturn.
In a recession, some businesses may struggle or fail, some people lose their jobs, and the economy is not doing as well.

10. Great Depression vs. Great Recession
