Compare & contrast the Great Depression of the 1930’s to the Great Recession of the 2000’s. Use the articles to complete the packet. Write answers in complete sentences.

6 Great Depression vs. Great Recession

8 Depression A very long, very harsh economic downturn.
In a depression, banks fail, millions of people don’t have jobs, businesses fail, and many people are very poor.

9 Recession A slower, shorter and less extreme economic downturn.
In a recession, some businesses may struggle or fail, some people lose their jobs, and the economy is not doing as well.

10 Great Depression vs. Great Recession
Use the articles to gather information on both time periods. In the table, write down causes you see, effects (unemployment rates, homelessness, etc.), and how the govt. responded Then answer the questions in complete sentences.
