2 MEETING GUIDE WHAT? WHO? HOW? WHEN? WHY? 5 IMPORTANT QUESTIONS
Your questions

3 We want to place our relationship in law because we want to cement our belief that the purpose of education is to give children the chance to learn how to be the very best people they can be, who understand, are tolerant of and respect other views and ways of life. This is at the heart of our shared beliefs and education plans. WHY?

4 WHAT is an Academy? Academies receive funding through central government rather than through a local authority. Academies receive funds that LAs “top slice” for central services.    The LA remains responsible for special needs, admissions and transport.     Becoming an academy gives schools greater freedoms and flexibility such as the decision power to set school terms and working days and set the curriculum.

5 WHAT is a Multi Academy Trust (MAT)?
A MAT is a group of schools legally bound together led by a a Board of Trustees appointed by Members.

6 MAT Structure MEMBERS (5) (CEO) TRUSTEES (11) (HEADS)
SCHOOL GOVERNING BODY (7)

7 Governance Members 5 Members have ultimate control.  They are like shareholders in a company. They appoint the Board of Trustees and have right to amend Articles of Association.  Our Members are Governors or Heads from each school with many years of experience.    Trustees We are proposing a Board of 11 Trustees, drawing from the skills in people who belong to the governing bodies of each of the schools involved.    There should be a range of skills across the Board.  They are responsible for setting the direction; holding the HT to account and ensuring financial probity.  They must also ensure that they are complying with charity law.  The duties are largely those of a governor now. Local Governors Trustees can delegate some/all governance functions to the local level.  The details of what has been delegated are made clear in a Scheme of Delegation.  The details of this are being worked out at the moment as is part of discussions with governing bodies. Finance LA top slice not taken and used to fund MAT. Approx. 95% back to school.

11 WHY? MAT 90’s to Now LA Support/Role Expectations

12 WHY? Kemeneth Sports Partnership – an example of collective improvement.
Strengthen existing partnerships Commonly held core beliefs and ethos Trust Close working relationship of staff Building upon successful history over many years Delivering 4-16 education for the geographical area that we serve Celebrate and value the individual school communities

13 Kemeneth’s aims Improve educational outcomes
Deliver a better education; Broaden the curriculum; Widen opportunities for pupils; Improve the quality of teaching; Develop closer partnership working; Preserve of local schools with local head teachers.

14 Kemeneth’s Vision for our learners
Kemeneth provides a very rich education to the 1545 children in its care.   Pupils learn how to communicate confidently in writing and in speaking and with numbers.     They talk about their learning and know what they need to do to improve.   They make more progress than nationally is expected of them.   They surprise themselves and their parents by what they know, understand and can do.  This is especially true of those pupils who traditionally underachieve (boys, able; disadvantaged children, esp able; SEN pupils).     They believe in themselves; know how to turn their exciting ideas into reality and do so. They learn first-hand what it means to live, work and play in Cornwall and take care of the environment. They have a real voice in planning and evaluating what works for them. They know self-discipline and abide by the rules of the community, how to work in a team and how to lead others. They are polite, reliable, adaptable and persevering.   They understand, are tolerant of and respect other views and ways of life and know what it means to be British. They know their career options and have the skills to attain their dreams. And they have fun. And they are safe. They leave Kemeneth competent and confident, prepared to give something back.

15 WHAT will remain the same?
If we do this well, you, parents and children should notice nothing different. Each school retains its name; its uniform; its unique identity. Each school is inspected separately by OFSTED. The Head remains responsible for the day to day running of the school. BUT the opportunities, experiences and standards will expand, develop and deepen.
