Morning Worship The end of the church year 1st December 2017 Bishop Justus Church of England School

4 Let the light of Christ shine in our lives
Gather The Lord be with you And also with you Let the light of Christ shine in our lives

5 Receive Proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favourable or unfavourable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching. From Paul’s Second Letter to Timothy, Chapter 4, verse 2

6 Engage The church year begins on Advent Sunday – “The annual cycle of the Christian year allows us to commemorate the life and ministry of Christ, to celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit which led to the foundation of the early Church, and to recall the ministry of the apostles and martyrs who spread the Christian faith”. Church of England For more information see -

7 Engage Video suggestion … The liturgical year
Some discussion ideas … Why do you think that people like to have certain events every year e.g. Birthdays, remembrance? Why is ritual or special ceremonies important to people? How can an annual pattern help your life? Discussion techniques - Go back to the Bible passage ask “How does the theme link with the Bible passage?” Discuss the question in pairs for 30 seconds then invite a response from each pair. Use quick-fire answers e.g. throw a soft bean bag / toy to a student, when they answer they throw it back and you quickly throw to another student. Simplify the question - Invite quick one-word answers, write them on the board, then reflect on the answers – see connections. Activity suggestion … Create your own annual cycle of events for the year ahead – noting the dates and times that are important to you.

8 Respond [Reflect for a minute on the worship theme and our engagement …] God of all time, who makes all things new, we bring before you the year now ending. For life full and good, for opportunities recognised and taken, for love known and shared, we thank you. Amen Francis Brienen, “Prayers Encircling the World” Prayer / reflection technique – Give a summary of the theme and any responses that students may have made, then invite everyone to be still (remind no books open etc – lessen distraction). To pray or reflect on today’s worship. Be quiet for one minute. Then say the prayer …
